Vibrant, historic, buzzing and contagious - Porto is becoming one of Europe's most popular LGBT destinations.

Portugal has been showing an enormous acceptance by recognising of LGBT rights, such as same-sex marriage and adoption, the right to self-determination of gender identity and the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Porto, a city marked by free and revolutionary thinking, is second to none. Here it exudes freedom, tolerance and respect, and it's easy to find LGBT couples posing for pictures by the colourful facades, calmly walking the streets or enjoying the cosy spaces scattered across the city.

Transport

Upon arrival at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport you will find numerous transportation options to the city centre. Public transport is safe and comfortable and there is an underground station within the airport.

You can also buy Porto.CARD with unlimited access to the entire network of Metro, STCP Bus network and CP urban trains, as well as free tickets and discounts at more than 100 points of interest in the city.

For those who like to feel like a star or want to guarantee their main role on this trip, Hotel Teatro recreates the atmosphere of Baquet Theatre, inaugurated in 1859 in that very same place. In the heart of the city and 151 years later, we find the bohemian, luxurious and unique atmosphere of this theatre.

For a luxurious and panoramic view of the city, The Yeatman is the right choice. Wine Hotel located in the area of the Port Wine Cellars, offers the Portuguese art of welcoming guests in a British atmosphere of classic comfort and elegance.

If you want to feel like royalty, you must-visit the Hotel Intercontinental – Palácio das Cardosas. Housed in an 18th-century palace, with a privileged view over Avenida dos Aliados and within walking distance of all the main cultural landmarks, Palácio das Cardosas is the perfect place for those who want to see the true essence of the city.

But the options do not end here and there are places to suit all tastes and pockets.

Leisure

After a visit to the city's main attractions, such as Café Majestic, Livraria Lello (Bookshop), Clérigos Tower or Bolhão Market, take time to rest at the Mistik Sauna Club. Here you can find a space that fosters socialising, relaxation and well-being.

So that nothing is left to chance, and before you get carried away by the night, stop by the Anjos Urbanos hairdressers and take the opportunity to pamper yourself.

Nightlife

The nightlife of Porto is already well known. A small but intense world where you can find everything!

Pride Bar is all about LGBT. Theme parties and drag shows are just some of the reasons why you should go to this bar.

Closer to the city centre, Café Lusitano is a cosmopolitan space that has a 1950s vibe. We guarantee you will love it!

Nearby, housed in an old building, you will find Café au Lait. You can go there at any time for a conversation while drinking coffee, a relaxing late afternoon tea or to start your evening in the best possible way.

Close to Rotunda da Boavista, the Labirintho bar differentiates itself for belonging to the so-called cultural bars, hosting art exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events.

In addition to all this, the LGBT Porto scene has a variety of annual events to offer, from the LGBT Pride Parade to Queer Porto. Plenty of sunshine, must-visit museums and art galleries, beaches and, of course, Port Wine, are added to the list of reasons why you should visit the city!
