Porto Half Marathon brings together athletes from 46 countries

The 12th edition of Porto Half Marathon is scheduled for the morning of September 16th, with a course between Avenida Paiva Couceiro and Jardim do Calém.

Of the 5.000 entries in the Half Marathon (21 km) and the 3.500 in the Mini Marathon (6 km), 17% are foreigners from 46 countries, from all five continents.

There are already confirmed some of the best national long-distance runners, who will try to oppose the hegemony on the podium of the African athletes of the Rift Valley. In the last ten editions, the men's winners were seven Kenyans, one Ethiopian, one Eritrean and one Ugandan (Daniel Rotich, winner in 2017).

In the women’s category, it has been similar, though last year it was a Japanese, Nao Isaka, the first to cross the finish line. Filomena Costa finished in third place, becoming the fifth Portuguese to climb the podium in the history of the Half Marathon, after Marisa Barros (2007), Ana Dulce Félix (2011), Leonor Carneiro (2012) and Sara Moreira (2014).

The race is scheduled to start at 10am in Avenida Paiva Couceiro (below Freixo Bridge) and finish at Jardim do Calém (Fluvial). Entries are still open on the event's official website.

For the next Sunday, September 9th, there is a group training session open to all who are interested, starting at 9:30am, in Calém Garden.
