Al Gore comes to Porto

Nobel Peace Prize winner and former US President Al Gore will be the Keynote Speaker of a conference in Porto on March 7th, in which he expresses optimism about the future of the wine industry in the face of climate change.

After the former US President Barack Obama in July last year, the Climate Change Leadership world conference, created in Porto, brings another prominent, influential and international figure on climate change to enrich the debate on solutions that exist in the wine industry within this framework.

At the event, which will take place from 5-7 March at Alfândega Congress Centre and Coliseu Porto Ageas, Al Gore will talk about the "Porto Protocol - a case for optimism on the Climate Crisis", sharing his experience as a pioneer of "The Climate Reality Project", a non-profit organization focused on environmental education.

The Democrat who was Bill Clinton's vice president is joined by the voice of Afroz Shah, the Indian lawyer who led the world's largest beach clean-up - in Versova, Bombay, known as "the trash of the world." The action was daily gaining new volunteers, eventually involving local residents, schools, Bollywood stars and politicians. In 86 weeks, 5,000 tons of garbage were removed from the beach, a feat that earned him the UN Award "Champions of the Earth" in 2016.

Also the Swedish Kaj Török, Chief of sustainability at the Max Burger chain of restaurants, is also a speaker at the event to realize that, through the project "The world's first climate-positive burgers", each hamburger has reduced its ecological footprint by 100% , a percentage that has more meaning if the 1.5 million trees planted in Africa are accounted for and correspond to over 10% storage of the carbon dioxide associated with the brand activity.

The second Climate Change Leadership, which includes the conference on wine, exhibition and summit, will also feature Ester Asin, European director general of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), who will share her experience in leading global projects in the areas of environmental preservation; and the Minister for the Environment and Energy Transition, Matos Fernandes, who will present the roadmap for carbon neutrality.

Bringing together 700 delegates from 50 countries, this initiative will enable all sectors of the wine industry to work together to ensure a secure and sustainable future, better understanding the role of human activity in climate change and reducing the collective impact.

The organizer of the event, which has the support of Porto City Hall, is selling early bird tickets for an exclusive access to Porto Summit, for the afternoon of March 7th (when Al Gore will be speaking) for the price of 270 euros which, after February 22nd, it will cost 335 euros. The event has limited seat capacity, so we recommended to buy it in advance HERE.
